Second life
The wheel has turned again and my attention has moved on to Second Life
Its a multi-user 3D digital world that's highly flexible and absorbing of free cycles (CPU and brain). For me, its a great way to learn a little about 3D modelling (there are in-game tools for creating your own objects) and yet another scripting language, hooking you into the game's 3d, physics-capable engine. Lots of interesting possibilities.
Kelley (my wife) has bought us some land -she's playing out her home building and landscaping fantasies- I'm studying. Look for us in-game as Viridian and Earnest Clymer.

The crazy part of Second Life (to me) is the stories that the Hamlet Linden guy keeps posting. Apparently this story was big enough to hit some large UK site's front page. Really wild...
Where the game world leaks into the real world and vice versa is fascinating. There's definately a percentage of the "players" of 2nd life who blur the line between virtual/reality almost to the point of removing it altogether.
Myself, I find my real world habits simply exaggerated in the virtual world. I am generally less sociable, care less about what I wear, and work more. And now that I think about it, I have less hair and a rounder belly too :)
